Covid-19 Protocols

Alliston Veterinary Services is pleased to announce that our office will be allowing clients into the office with their pets as of March 3rd.

We ask that upon arrival, please remain in your vehicle or outside of our office and call 705-434-2500 to check in. We are trying to limit clients waiting in the waiting room. To facilitate this, once checked in and an exam room is available, a client service representative will be in touch to bring you and your pet into our office and will escort you to the exam room. We also ask that all clients who are coming into the office fill out our covid-screening before their appointment.

While you are in the office with your pet for their appointment, we kindly ask that you wear your mask at all times and not bring any food or drinks in with you. We also ask that only one family member comes in with their pet at this time and if bringing multiple pets that we only have one in the exam room at a given time. This is to limit crowding in the exam room and to facilitate a stress-free appointment for your pet.

For clients who enjoy the curbside service, we will still have that available. Please advise at the time of booking the appointment what you would prefer.

For euthanasias, our dedicated compassion room will be open to having two family members present for the euthanasia. More family members are welcome to come but we ask that we limit the amount of people to two in the room at any given time.

We want to thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding. Please remember to be kind to our staff as we navigate re-opening in a manner that keeps everyone safe and healthy.

Laboratory Services

Laboratory

Our in-house laboratory saves valuable time in testing and diagnosing, whether for regular wellness visits or other care. Our skilled Technicians and Doctors utilize our modern lab resources and equipment to better serve your medical needs for immediate answers. In addition to our in-house diagnostics, we utilize Idexx Veterinary Labs to complete tests that we cannot run in-house. Results are usually returned within 24 to 48 hours.

Performing preventive medicine and diagnosing internal health issues requires the ability to perform a wide range of laboratory tests on blood, urine, feces, and biopsied tissue.

Without timely access to precise laboratory test results – blood testing, biopsies, microscopic examinations, bacterial culture sensitivity, and more – it is difficult to make an accurate diagnosis or assessment of your pet’s health. Laboratory testing allows our veterinarians to obtain additional information to assess your pet’s overall systemic health without the need for invasive and expensive procedures.

This is why we maintain a working relationship with a well-known reference laboratory and regularly perform tests during your pet’s wellness exams or when we suspect your pet may have a health issue. We usually can get results within less than 12 to 24 hours for most routine tests. In the future, we hope to provide in-house laboratory services.

For example, diagnostic testing can detect heartworm disease, Lyme disease, infections, feline leukemia, intestinal parasites, urinary tract infections, and many additional diseases and conditions that can go unnoticed in their early stages. Early blood testing can show evidence of diabetes, changes in liver or kidney function, or provide a baseline for future reference. Diagnostic testing is also included in pre-anesthetic screenings prior to dental or surgical procedures that require general anesthesia.

Annual wellness blood and urine tests, along with other diagnostics, assist us in the early detection of diseases and health conditions.
